I think it would be most useful to _begin_ with the simplest possible application, done well. This doesn't need to be a standard application but rather a "Hello World!" of applications which use the hurdish application structure. Bigger standard in my opinion only make sense once this simplest possible application is done well (so people see "yes, this can actually work flawlessly").
