Summary: fatfs can't handle QEMU's virtual fat block device Project: The GNU Hurd Submitted by: tschwinge Submitted on: Tuesday 03/27/07 at 12:33 Category: Hurd Servers Severity: 1 - Wish Priority: 3 - Low Item Group: Standard Compliance Status: None Privacy: Public Assigned to: None Originator Name: Originator Email: Open/Closed: Open Discussion Lock: Any Reproducibility: Every Time Size (loc): None Planned Release: None Effort: 0.00 Wiki-like text discussion box: _______________________________________________________ Details: QEMU can -- on the fly -- create a virtual fat block device based on a directory hierarchy on the host system. (For example: ``-hdc fat:some/where''.) The Hurd's fatfs translator, however, can't cope with that block device. It may be that it's simply too strict when checking the device for validity; it might also be that QEMU's emulation is not completely done according to the specification. As GNU GRUB and other operating systems (I guess) are able to handle these block device, I suppose that it's a (probably minor) issue in our fatfs implementation. _______________________________________________________ Reply to this item at: <http://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?19425> _______________________________________________ Message sent via/by Savannah http://savannah.gnu.org/ _______________________________________________ Bug-hurd mailing list Bug-hurd@gnu.org http://lists.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/bug-hurd
