When I have the time (in some weeks) I can test this both on the PC
and the Apple (PPC, 32 bits).

At the same time I want to add xattr support to glibc on GNU/Hurd so
the GNU.translator and GNU.author attributes can be used.  Are you
interested in committing such patch to glibc?  If not or if you are
someone else wants to do this, please tell me to prevent doing double
work.
