A while ago I was told there are some serious problems with the
serial driver in GNUMach 1.x. This has something to do with the
   allowed serial speed and PPP.

What is the problem with Mach and what causes this problem? I'm
willing to look into this problem. Does this patch already fix the
   bug?

What is the status of PPP? Does it work and if not what needs to
   be done?

Could you be a bit more specific? PPP doesn't work because you can't
do high-speed transfers AFAIK. If that works, any normal BSD PPP
user-space deamon should work (um-pppd was used before). Maybe Marcus
can elabortate about the problems in the serial driver, he was theone
digging in it.

Are there any PPP users out there by the way? It doesn't seem that
there are, since nobody has been annoyed about this particular problem
in a long (long!) time.

Cheers.
