There is also a Debian package[0] that is quite useful because it asks you (via debconf) at installation which keymap you want, and then makes loading of the keymap automatic at boot, via an init script. Thanks to Neryel, it includes a german keymap, a french keymap, an use one, a dvorak one, and a dvorak-fr one.
