looking at glibc cvs changelog, i found some recent fixes to ioperm.c by you
and Roland. one of them refers to a missing autoconf check that could
explain the ENOSYS error.

maybe it's that the latest glibc build in debian gnu/hurd doesn't include
these fixes?
