It works for me with zgrep 1.6, e.g. "zgrep --color root /etc/passwd" shows the matches in color. It didn't work in older versions of gzip. What does "zgrep --version" say? If zgrep --color is failing for you in 1.6, can you give a recipe for reproducing the failure?
