Thanks for reporting this, but are you sure about that? <http://techpubs.sgi.com/library/tpl/cgi-bin/getdoc.cgi?coll=0530&db=relnotes&fname=/usr/relnotes/tokenring> indicates that there is a /bin/grep on IRIX 5.3. Perhaps there is a /usr/sbin/grep as well as a /bin/grep, but one of your greps got removed by accident?
