Unfortunately the previous patch breaks the tests, with errors like:

ERROR: bytevectors.test: Datum Syntax: incorrect prefix - arguments: 
((wrong-type-arg "apply" "Apply to non-list: ~S" (#\i) (#\i)))

I'm out of ideas for now, I last tried:
