This is not going well at all : 

$ dpkg -S /usr/lib/libgc.so
dpkg: /usr/lib/libgc.so not found.
$ ls -lap  /usr/lib/libgc.so
/usr/local/bin/gls: cannot access /usr/lib/libgc.so: No such file or directory
$ ls -lap  /usr/lib64/libgc.so
/usr/local/bin/gls: cannot access /usr/lib64/libgc.so: No such file or directory


I should go ask on the debian IRC chan. Those guys generally know 
all this good stuff.
