Follow-up Comment #2:
Running 4.4BSD-Lite2's _mdoc_ macros (with changes to drop a blank line from
"doc-nroff" and use `mso` instead of `so` requests with absolute file specs)
is a bit glitchy, but does seem to suggest that this may have regressed at
some point in _groff mdoc_.

Not sure what the stray zeroes are about. But the line break is clearly
