the poppler version emits:
pdfimages -list contrib/mom/examples/typesetting.pdf

the xpdf version emits a much more terse output on the same file:
pdfimages -list contrib/mom/examples/typesetting.pdf 1
1-0000.ppm: page=3 width=81 height=96 hdpi=72.00 vdpi=72.00
colorspace=DeviceRGB bpc=8
1-0001.pgm: page=3 width=81 height=96 hdpi=72.00 vdpi=72.00
colorspace=DeviceGray bpc=8
in the patch, I attached, I try to cater for this difference.
Concerning pdftottext and the ur-works test
the situation for pdftotext is a bit more involved as the version from
xpdfreader.com does not support reading from stdin. so, I redirect the output
into a temporary file and read from there.
