Having *just* seen this *exact* problem while fiddling with and verifying the
function of the "hdfo.roff" example in our Texinfo manual, this might be
because a trap macro has forgotten to invoke a request with the no-break
control character.

Words from a partially collected line will spurt out like mustard if, inside
trap-called macros, one isn't careful with requests that imply breaks.
