Oh, cool, you tracked 'em down. I couldn't remember if I had renamed them for
my own benefit or if I found them on the Web with those names.

The only difference is that our fonts include kerning data for the ellipsis
font which is not included in the AFMs, because commit 81b4ffadc1ced modified
the files via a shell script to duplicate the full stop kerning information to
ellipsis.
And Dave just happens to be right here, ready for the spotlight. ;-)

I'm afraid I don't have any insight into that decision.
More broadly, I wonder if this slant value selection is related to the gripe
this month on the development list about Hungarian umlauts.

Maybe it is time we extended afmtodit with whatever features we need to make
possible a fully automatic transformation from the Adobe AFMs, which are
certainly fully fossilized by now, to _groff_ font description files.
To that end, I am reassigning the ticket to you, Deri, but setting status to
"None" so as to not prejudge the next step you take.
You can of course reassign it again if you like.
