Update of bug #64421 (project groff): Status: None => Need Info
_______________________________________________________ Follow-up Comment #23: Hi Günter, Thank you very much for following up. [comment #22 comment #22:] > I rebuilt the Arch Linux groff package at version 1.23.0-3 from source and that resolved the issue. - The "black" label does not show up with that compiled version. > > The precompiled package for the exact same package version still has the bug though. Hmm. This suggests the possibility that something went awry with the toolchain used to build the official Arch Linux package. I don't know enough about Arch's development processes to say if a build bot constructed it, or the package maintainer. The Debian Project's "reproducible builds" effort is motivated, as I understand it, in significant measure by this sort of problem. Nevertheless, could you assemble a gzipped tar of the stock and your rebuilt versions of the "troff" command and attach them to this ticket? I'd like to do comparative _objdump_(1)s of them and see if that reveals anything interesting. I am less confident now than I was in comment #20 that this is a formatter problem. Maybe a buggy toolchain was used for the official Arch package build. Still, I'd like to rule out a defect in GNU _troff_ here if I can. It is possible that GNU _troff_ is being sloppy with memory in a way that was exposed by the official Arch package build but is concealed by your rebuild.
