Follow-up Comment #5, bug #60666 (project groff): Hello Branden. Well, sure. I saw your SGR thing already by then. I do not like introducing more and more environment variables for each and every thing myself. However, .. end-users can only control via that. More or less. There should be a well-known resource file for groff in a XDG path or in ~/ or wherever, maybe from the start. How many users know about groff resource control? Just a thought.
The idea of calling it "link", well, why not. OSC 8 may go away, hmhmm :) Well why not do both and let link alias OSC 8, then maybe it could even be configurable. A special request to turn it on and off like is available for sgr .. is redundant when sgr umbrellas OSC 8, otherwise, sure. Never used that myself, that on/off thing ;) But sure, having the switch is better than not having it. Like that everybody could if she or he would. Necessary code changes seem trivial (as the code is as such). Ciao from Germany.
