Hi GNU webmasters, What is the process to update the postal addresses in the old GPLv2, LGPLv2 and LGPLv2.1 license files?
$GNUWWWLICENSES old-licenses/gpl-2.0.txt $GNUWWWLICENSES old-licenses/gpl-2.0.texi $GNUWWWLICENSES old-licenses/lgpl-2.1.txt $GNUWWWLICENSES old-licenses/lgpl-2.1.texi $GNUWWWLICENSES old-licenses/lgpl-2.0.txt $GNUWWWLICENSES old-licenses/lgpl-2.0.texi Gnulib imports these files, and they contain the old FSF postal address, which according to RMS shouldn't be used anymore. These old license are still in use by several GNU projects for various reasons. Could we update these files to match GPLv3 that doesn't include the postal address? But adding 2024 is fine too. There is also the following snippet at the end, for GPLv2: with this program; if not, write to the Free Software Foundation, Inc., 51 Franklin Street, Fifth Floor, Boston, MA 02110-1301 USA. and LGPLv2.0 and LGPLv2.1: License along with this library; if not, write to the Free Software Foundation, Inc., 51 Franklin Street, Fifth Floor, Boston, MA 02110-1301 USA Could we modify these into: ; if not, see <https://www.gnu.org/licenses/>. Which would make them consistent with GPLv3 and this recomendation: https://www.gnu.org/prep/maintain/html_node/License-Notices-for-Code.html Thanks, /Simon
