I just started looking at this. It looks like the reading of gnulib-cache.m4 will need to be reworked. In gnulib-tool.sh line 5203: # The docbase defaults to the cached one. if test -z "$docbase"; then docbase="$cached_docbase" if test -z "$docbase"; then # Long error message here. fi fi The corresponding section would be GLImport.__init__(), but we set the default docbase in main.py line 943, before creating the GLImport: if not docbase: docbase = 'doc' So we can't check for the empty string. I guess we docbase an empty string if --docbase isn't used. Then only set it to the cache or default in GLImport.__init__(). But that section of code is already sort of difficult to follow... Collin
