Thanks, this seems incredibly useful!

Perhaps we can write a 'glint' (pun on gnulib-lint) tool that searches
through source codes and prints out your warnings when a sub-optimal
function is used (and the gnulib improvement isn't present)...  I know
I would have use for that.
