Hi, I wrote a design proposal for an extension to Gettext, composed of several distinct but not entirely independent features, that I called "generalized Gettext". Practical implementation, I guess, would take form of another library (incl. language bindings) in the Gettext distribution, plus one new keyword in the PO format (which implies updates to Gettext tools).
