But there more purpose-built applications nowadays to securely remove data from a drive. For example BleachBit, which Americans might know of because of a political controversy associated with it [1]. Regardless, most governments and and some cooperations will require degaussing at the minimum [2]. And likely require more than that, i.e. physically breaking the drive.
