Yes, the LC_* variables affect sorting in a LOT of applications.  This is
a FAQ:

Yes, it would make sense to factor that statement out of sort.c into a
helper function in system.h, then have more than ls.c also call that
function to reuse this paragraph.   Would you like to write the patch?
