I know it is not a bug in the wc utility ... but maybe you also handle
feature requests (if you don't, please let me know where to address them
to).
I would like to have an option (e.g. -n) to obtain from wc only its
numeric output - /without /the trailing file name. I guess I am thinking
of something like a non-verbose output mode in which only the requested
bare essentials are returned. This would make further processing of wc's
output much more convenient and would reduce the need for further piping
into cut or other such utilities.
Clearly, the non-verbose option should combine with all existing
invocation options to wc, such as
wc -w -n file
to return only the number of words in file etc.
