On thinking about it further, I like the idea of having 'uniq' be consistent with 'sort', but I'd prefer 'uniq' to have the same syntax as 'sort', i.e, 'uniq' should use the same -k option that 'sort' has. Could you implement a patch along those lines, and give us permission to use it? You shouldn't use the Debian patch unless we can be sure we can get written permission from its author.
