Found it, though I don't understand why this is a problem: by bisecting the contents of emit_data, which emits the missing script snippet starting from /* Exception handling. */, I found that the call to align_to_default_symbol_alignment at the end of the function causes the problem. Either inlining it here (ugly) or (better) moving it to the caller fixes the problem.
