I apologise for taking so long to getting around to replying to your bug
report. I did try to reproduce the problem, using the current mainline
sources, but I could not get the linker to generate an internal error. I think
that this bug must have been fixed in the recent past, and if you try the
mainline sources or the new 2.18 release you should find that the problem has
been resolved.
