There are precedents for this kind of behavior in languages like perl which 
issue warnings 
for deprecated features for several release cycles before actually removing the 
features.That assumes this alternative syntax is deprecated.  They also 
document deprecatedfeatures.  And they have a way of turning off deprecation 
warnings for specific features.
