The only other tweak I had to do was to avoid here-document split across
multiple expressions:

@%:@if defined __APPLE_CC__ && defined __clang_major__ &&
__clang_major__ < 3
@%:@error premature clang
@%:@endif
SRC
AC_MSG_ERROR([clang version 3.0 or later is required])

Tried to fix it as https://github.com/ruby/ruby/pull/3773. I assume initial
for was never guaranteed to work.
