As near as I can make out from the files you emailed me privately,
it's a bug in the MacOS X implementation of egrep (grep -E).
Perhaps you can track it down by running the test "by hand",
so that we can prevent spurious test failures later,
but it's not high priority as it's a problem with the test harness
rather than a bug in Autoconf itself.
