I just tried it, and it booted in less than 30 seconds. As I watch it boot, it seems to me that it takes about the same amount of time on real hardware. I downloaded BSDRP-1.56-full-amd64-vga.img.xz, then used the xz command to decompress, and then booted the VM directly from the .img file. I used 1G ram and 1 core and 1 NIC (the defaults for virt-manager).
