In the log you posted, brltty looks like it's crashing just after the eSpeak 
speech driver started. Since you're saying that you're hearing it speak one 
thing, I'm guessing that that's where the crash is. I wonder why I'm suspecting 
a Pulse Audio crash. :-(

What happens if you specify the "no" speech driver. I bet brltty will stay 
running.
