Did you run ./autogen before you did ./configure? As Dave says, it's best to 
use ./cfg-darwin instead of ./configure on the Mac? Do you have xcode 
installed? Did you run xcode-select --install from terminal to make sure the 
xcode command-line tools are necessary? Did you open xcode and agree to the 
terms?
