It's a long story. The feature we've planned to implemented for a long time is generic "parameters" management, that would handle things like the current display parameters (dimension), the rendering style (6/8 dots), etc. During that time it got quite precise in our mind how to implement it, we just never got to take the time to do it (because it's far from a simple change). I will be busy during the few coming weeks (moving back to France, new job, Debian release, ...) but it's definitely high on my todo list.
