Can you upgrade to a recent kernel (say 2.6.23 or 2.6.24) from the Debian
repository? If the problem continues, try adjusting the autosuspend parameters
as Dave suggested.

If you're running Debian, I would suggest upgrading to the Testing or the
Unstable distribution, especially on a desktop or laptop system.
