This relates to my attempts to get brltty to work with a netinst from debian so I could use brltty for the install. As already documented, with my prolific adaptor I was able to start brltty but this did not result in useable output. I'm hoping this has been resolved and will report after I try the weekly build of testing/Lenny that will include the fix for my problem.
However, I went back to trying this same process with the keyspan adaptor; I had assumed before that my reason for failure to even get brltty up with the keyspan was that I had not realized I had to hit enter on my mac mini before the boot prompt would even appear. However, this proved not to be the problem; the keyspan adaptor simply does not work with the netinst. The adaptor itself is not defective; it works on my windows machine and works on my mac in terminal with brltty. On my mac it uses the device brought up by the install of the keyspan driver on the Mac rather than ttyUSb0. In searching for a reason for this problem, I discovered that the keypsan site reported that ubuntu/debian required the user to install the keyspan driver manually because of license issues. If this is still the case, could this explain why the keyspan adaptor will not work for me with the netinst? If so, perhaps we could place the information somewhere so people will be forewarned that they can't use the Keyspan with a debian install cd. Since I have the prolific also, this isn't an issue for me; I was considering giving my prolific away to somebody else who needed an adaptor and thought I'd better check results of the keyspan with the netinst again; now obviously I won't be giving away my prolific unless my understanding of the situation proves to be incorrect. -- Cheryl "Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." _______________________________________________ This message was sent via the BRLTTY mailing list.
