As it happens, I've been forced to make some changes to my setup and
so I took the opportunity to switch to BRLTTY 3.8 or, more precisely,
SVN 3080. However, I still can't reproduce your problems. This is
using a Handytech Braille Start 40 on vanilla 2.6.21.3. This might
indicate that the problem is specific to a certain braille device
driver or to the Debian kernel.

I do have another issue, though, but since it doesn't sem to be
related to yours in any way, except that it concerns usb support, I'll
open another thread.
