How are things on the wildfire front down under?

A lot better - We've had a cool change (it's down to mid-teens rather than high 30s!) and we've finally had some proper rain.

To explain, fires are classified as "Going", "Contained", or "Controlled". All bar one fire in Victoria is at least contained now. That's the one on Wilson's Promontory (the southernmost point of the mainland) which is all national park. The main visitor centre is safe now, and they're hoping they'll get it contained in a few more days.

The scale of these fires is almost incomprehensible - the combined length of the major fire-fronts is over 1100 km (685 miles or so).

Charlie.
