Not far-fetched enough that I don't wholeheartedly believe it. The paradox of democracy is that it is vulnerable to defeat from within, in a way that is oddly similar to Hofstadter's "I Cannot Be Played on Record Player X". Sooner or later, an anti-democratic ideology will emerge that leverages democracy itself to destroy the democracy that elected it, and I'm quite convinced the Bush administration comprises at least some pieces of that exploit. There are movements allied to the GOP and providing much of its current funding that comprise a number of other pieces of that same exploit. I'm convinced of at least that much .. exact names, agendas, and known facts are notoriously slippery where this subject is concerned, but I'm convinced of the broad strokes at least. There is too much anti- American about some of what I know for a fact to be happening, and there are too many things about this country's history and traditions that stand in the way of objectives I've heard openly expressed in some quarters .. _______________________________________________ http://www.mccmedia.com/mailman/listinfo/brin-l
