i would agree that socialism doesn't work well under totalitarian governments, 
certainly not as well as capitalism.  singapore has been a powerhouse in 
southeast asia, for a small city state, as has hongkong (but much cleaner).  
the russian and chinese economies have grown tremendously under their new 
market strategies...
