I was just commenting on being behind reading Brin-L email. For anyone who doesn't know, a GCU is a General Contact Unit, a type of sentient spaceship from Iain Banks' Culture books. Many of the Culture ships have names that are witticisms of various kinds. People on the Culture list often amend such shipnames to their emails (but in this case I was just adding a parenthetical aside rather than a witticism).
