I've seen these myself, but I'm not sure if they came from Iraq. Most of these still come from Nigeria, and the basic concept is identical in all of them (modern equivalents of the Spanish Prisoner scam, basically), the only difference being some superficial parameters. I think some of them might also come from phish hatcheries in Korea and Romania, but most still come from Nigeria because of the virtually nonexistent enforcement of laws against the practice there.

It's pretty obvious that there are still people who respond to them, but I have to wonder what they're thinking .. "Yeah, those other 10,000 of these messages I got were totally bogus, but this one looks like the real thing, I think I'll give these guys my bank account info" .. kind of reinforces my dim view of the species as a whole, that does ..
