By which you mean, of course, that they are in the same class of  
objects:
things that are commonly used to represent letters of the English
alphabet to children. Just so, Jeopardy, an oft-instructional program
on a medium that is often used to waste time, is like an Internet
mailing list, on oft-instructional activity that is often a waste of
time.
