I have to talk about Marvin Zindler a little. I'd feel guilty if I
didn't. Marvin is/was a local Icon. Everyone here knows who Marvin
Zindler is and everyone knows when to say "Slime In The Ice Machine!".
Oh my wife cried during the tribute to Marvin last night. She has only
lived here six years and Marvin's story was mostly new to her, but she
was touched as she realized what we had lost. She had previously only
known Marvin Zindler as the guy who did the "Rat and Roach Report" on
TV. But he was much more than that, he was a real hero to many.
When Marvin first tried to break into television news reporting he was
told that he was too ugly for television.
May I say that a bit louder?
Marvin Was Too Ugly For Television!!!!
It must have hurt to have heard those words, but I think they had an
effect much greater than the intended brush off. Over the years and
with some regularity Marvin would find some disfigured person and coax
local hospitals and doctors to provide them with plastic surgery or
prosthetics. In recent years he had gone to Iraq and brought children,
victims of bombings and such, along with family members here to get
free prosthetics.
Pain begets compassion?
People here will miss Marvin and I hope we will again see his
like.......and soon.

Here is a clip typical of Marvin's news reports:
