Folks,

In an off-list discussion of this thread with Nick, ne mentioned that he
resists the urge to state, as several have in this thread, that there is
little or no difference between the parties. Upon reflection, I think he
is spot on. Moreover, I think that it benefits those who favor the
status quo for people to think so...

This evening, I received an email from "Talk2Action", an anti Christian-
dominionist web site that advocates separation of church and state with
almost a vigor that would do some of our beloved Brin-L antitheists
proud which reminded me that there are real and deep differences between
the parties.

In this case, it's the fact that one of the parties has allied itself
all too closely with seriously dangerous and deluded people who are
foisting a poisonous lie on the country and, through this country's
insane "projection of force" in the Middle East, around the world:

Help Fight Fake History That Powers The American Right

In 2004, The Texas Republican Party platform declared the United
States to be a "Christian nation". Christian nationalism is
probably the driving ideology of the Christian right, and that
ideology rests on a falsified version of history that tens of
millions of Americans believe to be true. This post concerns
that problem and introduces readers to one historian, Chris
Rodda, who rightfully deserves to be called a hero for writing
Liars For Jesus: The Religious Right's Alternate Version Of
American History [http://www.liarsforjesus.com], and for her
ongoing 15 part series at Talk To Action
     [http://www.talk2action.org/user/Chris%20Rodda/stories]
debunking falsified American history from the Christian right.
For free, so far. I've organized this fundraiser so she can keep
     her electricity and utilities on.

Dave
