I'm Dave Land, a 47-year-old resident of San José, CA. I'm the father of an unusually polite, sensitive and gentle 9-year-old car addict. I work in Silicon Valley, mostly doing web UI stuff. I'm not as much of a sci-fi fan as most of the others around here. I mainly joined the list for its lively political debates and the generally high level of intelligence that is exhibited here. I'm a lifelong liberal Democrat who is extremely intolerant of intolerance. I try to argue fairly, but I also know that I have a nasty habit of occasionally digging in and defending a position beyond reasonable limits. I am represented by Diane Feinstein and Barbara Boxer in the Senate. I'm represented Zoe Lofgren in the House, so I somewhat that to be thankful for. I do not feel that I have any representation in the administration, and that I am increasingly ill-represented in the judiciary. My Governor is an Austrian actor who drives Hummers and my Mayor was arrested last week. As a result, I'm not exactly excited about the state of politics. I'm a Christian, but not the freak-ball brand of Christianity that is trying to ruin this country. I am a Methodist who strongly embraces John Wesley's tenet "Think and let think".
