Right, we've been getting some questions about what's been going on
so here we go.
Claire and I did sort of "split up" for a while, after some
frustrating little problems, like some miles, or about 12,500 of
them. Our close friends know the ins-and-outs. But we stayed constant
friends and talking lots of course, and she has been my backstop all
the way through the planning and execution of Trikeabout 2005.
Couldn't have done it without her (or some other souls, you know who
you are). And we neither of us really took to "single life".
All the way through my little jaunt round Oz, we were missing each
other, and when I finally finished back in Melbourne we finally had
the space for just the two of us to talk and sort things out. So
we've decided to stop mucking about on at last and try to stay on the
same continent. Hence mention of Partner Migration Visas etc.
However, my current visa expires next week, and my ticket back to
Cyprus expires on 30th March, so I have to leave. We were hoping we
could file an application yesterday together with a bridging visa for
travel so I could go back to Cyprus, sort stuff out and see my folks,
and get back to Oz in short order to get a job and get the partner
visa sorted.
Unfortunately, there's a 12 month cohabitation requirement, and
they're being *really* strict at the moment. Like, genuine couples
have been knocked back for filing an application at 11 months and 2
weeks. Fair enough, their ball, their game, their rules.
This leaves us, after exploring all realistic avenues, precisely two
options:
First, we go our separate ways and call it quits. Not good.
Second, we get married and make honest peoples of each other.
So we are. I'm going back to Cyprus, we'll try to file a prospective
marriage visa within a couple of weeks, and hopefully this'll be the
last enforced separation we have to deal with. Claire may blog or
post too... give her a chance, we've both caught rotten stinky colds
from the commonwealth games and it's actually 4am as i type this
'cause I can't sleep - damn you pseudoephedrine...
