I just read that a spokesperson for the VP said, "He didn't do anything we
wasn't supposed to do," with regard to the shooting incident.

Uhhh, I would have thought that he wasn't supposed to shoot other people.
Surely she didn't mean that he was *supposed to* shoot his friend. Unless
it's a lawyer joke in very bad taste.

And I'm darn sure that a person with a gun is *supposed* to pay attention to
everything around him, especially in the direction where the gun is pointed,
especially before squeezing the trigger. Basic gun safety says you never
point a gun, whether or not you believe it is loaded, at another person.

Sounds like he rushed into war against the quail and there was totally
unnecessary collateral damage.

My favorite quote, though I have to admit this is feeling like I'm taking
cheap shots... Joel Achenbach on washingtonpost.com:

I find the story reassuring. Cheney is a man who doesn't just talk the talk.
No, if he's going to send American soldiers into harm's way, where they
might be shot at any moment by a deranged fanatic, he's also going to do the
same thing to his close personal friends. He's giving his hunting buddies a
taste of life in the Cheney Era, when you count yourself lucky just to get
out alive.
