Cindy's account of what happened: http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/020106Z.shtml
I have mixed feelings about this. I can't help but feel compassion for Cindy, but I don't want to be around her. For months now, I've tried to separate myself from anything that would endorse what I perceive as blaming, demonizing, hate and so forth. I do believe in public protest, but I also believe that decorum in Congress is appropriate. I think it is a positive action to share the pain of our families' losses with the entire nation, but I struggle to figure out how to share it with the nation -- and the world -- as one big national family, rather than as a criticism of people I am tempted to blame. Since Veterans Day, I have been somewhat paralyzed by indecision about how to further respond to the war and to Wes' death. As for irony, there's so much irony in "wiretapping without a warrant to preserve civil liberties" that it's almost invisible. Beyond irony, there is incompetence at high levels... the principal deputy director of National Intelligence, a former NSA director, who claims that the NSA knows the Fourth Amendment better than any other agency, recently insisted that the words "probable cause" don't appear in it? http://www.editorandpublisher.com/eandp/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1001883620 Nick On 2/1/06, Gary Nunn <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > > > I find it ironic, that on the same news page as Sheehan's arrest story, is > a > link to a Bush quote from his State of the Union address: > > Bush: 'We Will Act Boldly in Freedom's Cause' > > http://tinyurl.com/c5jym > http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/StateOfTheUnion/story?id=1564265 > > > > > I guess that freedom doesn't extend to grieving mothers with an > opinion..... > > > Police Remove Protester Cindy Sheehan From State of the Union Address for > Wearing Anti-War T-Shirt > http://tinyurl.com/9kmpf > http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/wireStory?id=1564588 > > > > > > > > _______________________________________________ > http://www.mccmedia.com/mailman/listinfo/brin-l > -- Nick Arnett [EMAIL PROTECTED] Messages: 408-904-7198 _______________________________________________ http://www.mccmedia.com/mailman/listinfo/brin-l
