Pothus ivy is practically impossible to kill, grows
luxuriously if tended, and having had one in a type of
hydroponics container, should be suitable for her
experiment.  Plus, you can buy one plant, and use
cuttings from it for all three containers.

I think tomatoes would do best over summer, so you
might have to have a grow light/heat source for a
winter project involving them.
