Folks,

If I said that I thought that color laser printers incorporate secret codes in every page they print that lets government agencies identify the printer - and potentially, the person who used it, you'd probably check my hat for tin foil.

But it's not me, it's the EFF who says it: http://www.eff.org/Privacy/ printers/docucolor/, so check *their* hats for tin foil, if you must.

If you have access to a Xerox DocuColor printer, they even have a decoder page that lets you figure out what it is that the printer is telling the feds. (Pretty much just the time and date that the page was printed and the serial number of the printer.)

Still, I hadn't heard about it, and it sounded so far-fetched that it reminded me of the '80s joke about Japanese photocopiers that send copies of US tech company secrets back to Japan...
